Teacher Tube Workshop

Definition

TeacherTube is a video sharing website similar to, and based on, YouTube. It is designed to allow those in the educational industry, particularly teachers, to share educational resources. The site contains a mixture of classroom teaching resources and others designed to aid teacher training. A number of students have also uploaded videos that they have made as part of college courses. It has found favor with educators who find that YouTube content is barred from educational networks by content filtering systems.[2]

Teacher Tube is a website which is dedicated to offering educational videos made by teachers and students. It is similar to youtube, but is more effectively monitored to reduce inappropriate material. We will cover how to set up a teachertube account, as well as, how to upload content and how to find and select videos and link them to your web pages.

Log onto a computer and open a web browser and type in the teacher tube URL  http://www.teachertube.com  to open the site.

Click on the Free Sign-up link near the upper left of the page.

Fill in the required fields of information and select sign-up.

This will bring you to a page with which you can select between completing your profile page, uploading videos, browse the channels or start watching videos.

At this point, log out and back into teachertube to establish that your account is working properly.

You will also need to open your e-mail and verify your account before uploads are accepted.

Just open the teachertube.com , go to select login and type in your username and password.

This opens up your home page from which you can select several tab options, home, videos, channels, groups, shopping – that’s why it is free!

Let’s take a few minutes and look through the tab links.

The video tab offers a variety of available videos; there are links under the main toolbar,

which offer most recent, most viewed, most discussed and so on.

The channels tab has several channels of like videos, as well as, several contests which can be entered

The groups tab offers a variety of user groups which one can join with people that have similar interests.

There is a search bar near the top of each tabbed page, where you can enter a topic to search for.

At this time, open your e-mail account used to establish your teachertube account and see if you have an e-mail for them to verify your account and validate your ability to upload.

At the far right of the screen is an upload button. Select this to upload a video. Movie Maker videos can be uploaded. I have sample which we will upload as a sample.

A page opens in which you can put in a title, description and tags. Tags are used for the search to tag the topic of the video.  You can also select the channels which you wish th feature the video. After entering the info, select Continue and the actual upload page will open.

Here, simply select browse, go to the video and select upload.

For this example upload the 2008 election video from the H:drive.

Lastly, we will link a video to our webpage. To do this: open and play a video, in the lower left of the screen there is a box labeled URL. Select and copy the URL.

*The ads at the bottom of the videos can be squashed by selecting the X in the upper right edge of the ad.

You may need to map a drive to the web server. I will tell you how to do that, as I don’t want to publish it.

This can then be linked to your web page, by opening your page with Frontpage, typing in a link title, select and right click on the title, then select hyperlink.

Paste the URL by pressing control + V while your cursor is in the hyperlink box, select OK, File, Save and the video is linked to your homepage.

This program or site can be used as a medium to upload video which you or your students can make with Movie Maker.
