Why did you go into teaching?

I have grown up in the school environment.  My father was a music teacher, so he would have my sister and I help him prepare his classroom over the summer for the new school year.  It was always exciting getting to know the teachers, and watching students interact with my father.  I knew that I wanted to make an impact just like he has in studentsí lives.  I wanted to be a positive influence for youth, and I knew that teaching would allow me to learn and grow while teaching others to learn and grow as well.

How long have you been teaching?

This will be my third year teaching, my second year at Windsor Elementary.

A little about your family.

I come from a small family.  I only have one sister and my parents.

Where did you go to college?I went to college at Eastern Illinois University

Why did you go into teaching?I decided I was going to be a teacher when I was three years old. I don't really know what made me decide that at three years, but as I got older I was reassured that it was the right thing for me to do because I loved learning and variety. Teaching is one profession that is never the same day to day. Yes,  the structure might be the same, but what happens in between isn't. The variety in teaching also allows for many learning opportunities.

How long have you been teaching? This is my first year teaching. I graduated from Eastern in the spring after student teaching in Effingham with Courtney Leach and Peter Manzi . At Effingham, I taught 3rd-4th grade general music and 5th grade beginning band at Central Grade, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands at the junior high, as well as Concert Band and Wind Symphony at the high school. In the fall, I complete my practicum at Sullivan High School, where I taught 6th grade beginning band and High School Percussion Ensemble.

A little about your family. I come from a family of teachers. My dad is a history teacher and football coach and my mom teaches Family and Consumer Sciences. My grandpa was a teacher, coach, and administrator for many years, while my great grandpa taught in a rural, one-room school house in Avena, IL. While not a teacher, my sister is a nurse that lives in Atlanta, GA with her husband and three kids. My girlfriend, Amanda, is currently working on her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology.

Do you have any hobbies? Music is probably my biggest hobby. When I need a break from the music side of things, I like to read or binge-watch shows on Netflix.
